Hunters for the Hungry

Virginia Hunters Who Care

Our October misions focus was on World Hunger. We collected and offering for World Hunger, most funds going to the IMB's World Hunger program, some gifts being directed to Baptist World Aid. During our missions study on October 13, 2004 we heard from a Virginia group often refered to as "Hunters for the Hungry"

Hunters for the Hungry seeks to channel venison to needy families throughout the state of Virginia through donations of venison by hunters who have more meat than they need. Hunters are encouraged to take their legally tagged, field-dressed deer to a participating meat processor or specified collection point. Processing centers accept the meat, process it, and send it on for distribution. Financial contributions allow Hunters for the Hungry to absorb the cost of processing the meat and getting it to appropriate food shelters, foodbanks, and related organizations. The venison is distributed as close as possible to the area from which it was taken.

Hunters for the Hungry is encouraging hunters to donate $2.00 as they purchase their licenses. This donation will allow them to process 12 servings of red meat to needy individuals. They are also in need of other processing centers who will aid in accepting venison from hunters to be sent on to distribution. Processing centers are paid by Hunters for the Hungry with donations from their sponsors.
